Since October 2024, Kai von Carnap has been a research associate in the project “Digital Sovereignty of Europe (DigitS EU)” within the framework of the Rhineland-Palatinate Research Initiative 2024–2028. He is pursuing a PhD and conducting research on global internet governance and the interplay between digital technologies and state power.

He is also an Associate Fellow at the Center for Geopolitics, Geoeconomics, and Technology at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), as well as a BLOCS Lab Fellow at the Aletheia Research Institution.
