Trier University Research Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Interventions for Mental Health

The IRDT is part of TRAIM — the University of Trier’s research focus area ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Interventions for Mental Health’, which is funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Research Initiative. Within TRAIM, ten research groups from five disciplines — psychology, computer science, nursing science, philosophy and law — are conducting interdisciplinary research into how artificial intelligence can support mental health care: safely, fairly and under human supervision. We contribute our expertise in the field of the legal regulation of artificial intelligence. In particular, we focus on the legal framework for the development and use of AI-supported applications in mental health care. Our work centres on issues of compliance with applicable legal requirements, the protection of fundamental rights and personal rights, and the legal requirements for transparency and human oversight.
